Day 3 Standedge to Hebden Bridge

Day 3 Standedge to Hebden Bridge
A really nice day today after the mixed fortunes of the past two days. Certainly the first 2 days of the PW are reckoned to be tough whichever end you start from.  So it was great to start off in warm sunshine and a light breeze.

First Trig. point of the day is Millstone Edge.
By the way, you can follow the Pennine Way route we are using by looking at the UK Ordnance Survey map pages on www.streetmap.co.uk   Use the large map size (5 x 5 panels) and set the scale level to 1:25000 These are the same pages that I download and use with a great program called GPS Utility (www.GPSU.co.uk). And so on to White Hill

Looking East from White Hill
However trouble was looming - Bad trip planning meant that this leg being walked on a Sunday, there was no Bacon Butty Van near the M62 motorway crossing. Bad Planning!
No Bacon Butty Van
Undaunted, we pressed on and over the M62

and  on towards Blackstone Edge (Yes, Another Trig. Point)

Blackstone Edge

The Aiggin Stone has apparently stood as a waymarker at this junction of ancient trackways for hundreds of years. Built to last.....

.....as were these stones we came across near Warland Resevoir.  Presumably they are going to be re-erected somewhere nearby.  I think the initials are for the Rochdale Corporation Water Works.

We had lunch at the seaside. (Warland Resevoir)

before pushing on to another local landmark, Stoodley Pike.

Lovely Day, 15.4 miles, Overall average 2.3mph, 459m ascent.

  1. Any chance of higher resolution photos so that they can be viewed larger on the screen?
