Day 2 Crowden to Standedge

Day 2 Crowden to Standedge

For the first 5 days we are based at home getting lifts to and from daily start and finish points, thanks to Ian's wife Kathy and daughter Alex doing the honours with the cars.

Kathy, looking sad at not joining us for 13 miles in the rain

Things can only get better, or should that be wetter?

                             Crowden Great Brook

After a while, the sun decided to make an effort but the walk was still fraught with danger

Ian is either doing a risk assessment or sending a last message to loved ones. Don't worry, there are stepping stones.  But they're under the water. One of many swollen stream crossings

Even when apparently resting (Black Hill Trig. point, Holme Moss mast behind) my mind is constantly processing complex and detailed navigational information.

Eventually it turned into a nice day,

Wessenden Valley

and we eventually turned up at the pub. All those swollen streams we had to cross must have had a profound effect on Ian.

So ends the 2nd day. 13.2 miles, 1339m of ascent, 2.1mph overall average.  I'll let you do the sums, I'm too tired.

    1. Of course he's smiling - he's already had a pint of Black Sheep before the tea!
Point a camera at me and I instantly turn unphotogenic.
